You will be responsible for the construction, management, and execution of Engineering teams at System Initiative. You will work in concert with our Product and UX leadership to design and implement a Product and Engineering process that creates highly aligned teams with a large degree of personal autonomy. You care deeply about producing high-performing, sustainable engineering teams. You want to start at the ground floor of building an Engineering culture and eventually lead multiple engineering teams. The Director of Engineering is a high-impact leadership role that directly leads to the company's overall success.

Responsibilities

• Own the execution of our engineering teams

• Participate in the design and implementation of the organization's overall Product and Engineering process

• Participate in product ideation, and work with Product and UX leadership to determine which opportunities the business should pursue

• Manage the execution of software development teams by assisting them in setting requirements, negotiating goals, and balancing timing

• Directly manage engineers from a wide range of backgrounds, experience levels, and locations

• Manage the day-to-day and strategic trade-offs of the engineering team, with a focus on quality and long term sustainability

• Hire and grow a diverse team in a high growth startup

• Support the career growth of individuals on your team

• Ensure compliance with security regulations

Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience in tech organizations focusing on SaaS and cloud. Experience with Developer tools is a plus

• 3 - 5+ years of experience building and managing engineering teams

• Hands-on experience in back-end and front-end development

• Demonstrated ability to think strategically and act tactically. Build for the needs of today with an eye toward the future

• Leadership qualities: initiative, ownership, high standards

• Strong verbal and written communication skills

• Excellent problem-solving abilities

• Enjoy working collaboratively in a small team with high trust

• Perform well given a high level of independence and autonomy

• Have experience working with and managing a distributed team

Salary & Benefits

• Salary range: $200K - $260K

• Stock Option range: 0.5% - 1.0% Fully Diluted

• A non-accrual paid time off (PTO) policy. The guidelines are;

  • One week of PTO per quarter. No email. No Slack. No calls. No exceptions.

  • Personal days here and there for doctors appointments, long weekends, or just because you need it

  • Winter Break - 12/26 - 12/31, except for folks on-call

• Home office and equipment stipend. Just articulate what you need, and we’ll take care of it

• You can live anywhere in the USA or Canada, but our working time zone is the Pacific Time Zone
